I first study the specific natural light of the site and create form and filter. For both me and for my team, the sun is what activates a space. Light makes architecture come to life. Q1 is a testament to our ideas, our creative spirit and our sense of purpose to connect users viscerally to their environment.

The concept of the Art of Building was one that immediately struck a chord with us, and we were excited to see the work that resulted. This has been a project close to my heart and I am delighted with the support we have received and the energy that has flowed back to us. Architecture is a shared art, and this process has enriched our understanding of the building that the wider team has created.

Cyanotype Sketches Early sketches of the Q1 Design study, mass, threshold and filter. The sketches began a conversation of how the form and skin of architecture can create shadow and light effects that engage users and improve their everyday lives. The sketches have been processed as Cyanotypes. The original blueprints. To begin our relationship with the genius loci of light and shade, we processed these cyanotypes on the Q1 Site, immediately fusing in our minds that the marks we make to design architecture, and architecture itself are only brought to life under the sun.
